Four Quick Tips for the Ultimate Sun Protection

Posted by Andy Shyr on

With summertime in full swing, it's no surprise the hot sun has been beating down extra hard (it's gotten to 110° where we are in California!). Everyone knows the best way to protect yourself from these harmful UVA and UVB rays is to apply sunscreen, but do we all know how to apply it properly? Take a look at these four tips to make sure you're getting full coverage and protection while you're having fun in the sun!

1. Apply face sunscreen around the eyes when safe! Sunscreen in the eyes can mean burning pain, so most people tend to avoid the general eye area when getting ready to go out in the sun. Without applying sunscreen around the eyes, though, the already sensitive will be even more susceptible to sun damage and premature aging. With products such as Dermalogica's Total Eye Care, you can be sure to have full protection over your eyes, too! This eye cream contains SPF 15 to shield your skin from the sun, and will simultaneously conceal dark circles and reduce puffiness. 2. Don’t forget your lips! Even your lips need protection from the sun when going out, but we can't really spray on sunscreen or apply lotion, can we? One of our favorite products, EltaMD's UV Lip Balm Broad Spectrum with SPF 31, will ensure the coverage you need to keep your puckers safe from damaging UV rays. And don't forget - your bottom lip is more likely to get sun exposure leading to skin cancer! 3. Make sure to cover all parts of your body! Aside from your obviously exposed arms and legs, people tend to forget that other parts of the body are also vulnerable to harmful UV rays! Make sure to get full coverage by applying sunscreen to your hands, the back of your neck, and even your feet! One of our favorite products is Coola’s Classic Body Unscented with SPF 30. Protect from the sun and boost your skin's defense with this non-greasy, antioxidant-infused sunscreen. 4. After-Sun Repair is a Must! Using all the sunscreen we can to protect our skin can only do so much, so make sure to cool down with a repair treatment. One of our favorites is Dermalogica's After Sun Repair! Cool your skin and help rectify any damages with this lightweight gel that will reduce irritation, calm your skin, and moisturize. Bonus Tip: Don’t Use Adult Sunscreen for Little Ones! It's only natural for everyone to take their little ones out in the sun to play, too, but are you protecting them well? A baby's skin is far more sensitive than the average adult, so make sure to use specially created baby sunscreen to protect your loved one from harmful UVA and UVB rays! We recommend Coola’s Mineral Baby Organic Unscented with SPF 50 as our go-to baby sunscreen, with natural ingredients and broad spectrum protection.
